Auschwitz memorial director: No plans to renovate site
By Amiram Barkat
As reported in Haaretz earlier this week, Holocaust survivors in Israel are concerned about Cywinski's plans to give the site a "face lift" and thus prejudice the authenticity of the memorial - as, they say, has been done at other concentration camps. [...] In a statement forwarded to Haaretz yesterday, Cywinski said that changes to the exhibit would only be made in coordination with the relevant Jewish organizations and the authorization of the International Auschwitz Council, which functions on behalf of the Polish prime minister and also includes members from Israel and the United States. Sources at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum told Haaretz that there were no plans to "beautify" the site in the framework of the changes. http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/788572.html 03:00, kulturzentrum , The Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial Kategorie: Wszystkie | Dr. Adam Sandauer | Dr. Józef Garliñski | Jewish collaboration with the Soviets | Koniuchy | Krzysztof Cierpisz | Ks.
